Hope: A Change We Desire and Its Twists

We feel many different feelings every day. Among these, hope is special. So what is hope? Hope is a wish for change, to make things better. It could be something simple like hoping for sunny weather or something big like wanting peace in the world.

Let’s think about a situation: You don’t have enough money and you want more. This wish brings with it a wait for change in your current situation. Here, hope acts as something that encourages you to picture a better future.

However, hope also has a tricky side. While it aims to make your current situation better, it also creates a sense of need. Your hopes rely on things that are often not in your control, like the uncertainty of the world around you. This uncertainty and reliance on outside things might bring fear. The fear is that your hopes may not come true, your expected change may not happen.

When you hope for something, you basically leave it up to chance. It becomes a game of chances, where the result you want may or may not happen. This uncertainty is what makes hope and fear closely related. “It might happen” gives rise to hope, while “It might not happen” leads to fear. So, hope never comes without fear. They are like two sides of a coin, always together.

But how does this shape how we think and expect the future to be? When we hope, we often think that something is missing in our present. We believe that this missing thing is making us incomplete. This belief creates a desire to fill this gap in the future. We dream of a time where we have everything we currently lack, a future where we are complete.

This idea, though, can limit us. As we focus our hopes on the future, we might miss the value of the present. We might not see our current completeness and potential, making our present self seem less compared to a more desirable future self.

In the end, hope is like a double-sided coin. It can guide us towards a better future. But, it can also make us feel like we are not enough in our present. It’s important to balance hope with being okay with the present, to wish without needing too much, and to dream without feeling fear. In the end, hope is not only about getting or having something in the future; it’s also about seeing and recognizing the good things we have now.
